Supporting The Community
Bishop James Washington has worked for many years to improve the Quality of
Life for the community at large. He completed a fellowship with the National
Healthcare Forum, which gave him exposure on the National level using techniques
developed by the World Health Organization; he developed the healthy cities
Initiative in South Jersey.
Bishop Washington worked closely with a pioneer in Health Status improvement, Dr. Trevor
Hancock, M.D. of Toronto Canada. This partnership allowed Rev. W to bring
community stakeholders together to analyze concerns and formulate initiatives to
improve their neighborhoods.
A few of the programs developed were; The community Pride initiative, The Young
Ladies at Peace Anti-Gang involvement program, The
Healthy Cities Boys
Basketball League for Gang members and kids on the verge of trouble. This
program has seen great success in graduating youth from high school and seeing
many go on to College.
A major initiative was a program developed in conjunction with Mr. Herman Wrice,
called Turn Around America. An anti-Drug initiative employing community
residents in partnership, with local Law enforcement, to eradicate Illegal Drug
sales on Corners and Crack Houses in the community. This effort resulted in the
running out of town of dealers, the arrest of the “slingers of death”, and the
revitalization and increased safety of the streets.
Bishop Washington from this effort led the drive for The Weed and Seed projects in
South Jersey. This is a Federal program funded through the
U.S. Attorneys
office. This effort allowed Rev. Washington to bring the citizens increased Law
enforcement to assist them in ridding their neighborhoods of Crime.
This thrust allowed Rev. Washington to collaborate with the F.B.I.,
D.E.A. I.N.S. and
A.T.F. All of this has produced a stronger network to seek out and prevent
Crime.
His efforts are ongoing and his expertise is sought out by many organizations.
